Group instructions
Each person in the group will read the entire article chosen from the list, so that each participant has an overall understanding of its content and can help decide how best to present it.
The group will then divide the content among the participants, making sure that everyone explores an interesting aspect of the article.
The group presentation should take about 20-30 minutes.
Individual instructions
Each student will be responsible for teaching her/his section of the content, using the text in Companion to the History of the Book and the Oxford Companion to the Book as a starting point, and keeping in mind that the class will NOT have read the article or be familiar with the topic.
Examples, pictures, a handout, etc. may help to illustrate the presentations.
The hand-out
Please make & print a group hand-out so that others may have something visual to follow (especially as the language will be foreign to us) as well as to reflect on later when they prepare for the test.
Do include a bibliography in your hand-out.
Make 25 copies.
Helpful Hints
Teach it anyway you want. You do not have to stay with the order or limits of your section; rather, look for the heart of the matter, its causes and consequences, and present them as they will be best understood.
Plagiarism Issues
Remember that you may not read or present a text that is not prepared or written by you. Quoted material must be clearly introduced.
Marking
Each student will be evaluated individually, with consideration given to strength of the presentation, depth of research, and use of teaching aids.
